testing needs. Our laboratory services
range from the most fundamental analysis
and tests to highly specialized
requiring sophisticated instrumentation.
Summit technicians conduct our services
in our laboratory and in the field.
Accreditation and Certification
Our laboratory, equipment, and personnel
hold various accreditations through
AASHTO, ASTM, and NCDOT. The laboratory
is accredited under the Association of
State Highway and Transportation
Officials (AASHTO) Accreditation
Program, (AAP) recognizes a laboratories
compliance to certain requirements of
the American Society for Testing and
Materials (ASTM) and AASHTO practices
for testing soil, concrete, bituminous
paving, and other construction
materials.
Laboratory inspections and testing of
proficiency samples are provided by
AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL)
and the Cement and Concrete Reference
Laboratory (CCRL). These are used by AAP
to evaluate laboratory accreditation.
These agencies are under the National
Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
In addition, our laboratory is NCDOT
inspected and accredited to perform Tier
1 and Tier 2 soil test methods.
In addition to these inspections and
sample testing programs, our laboratory
has established and internal quality
control system that meets the AAP
criteria. These systems include:
- Administration organization for the
Laboratory and CMT division
- Equipment calibration procedures,
records, and inventory
- Controlling and reporting of
non-conformances
- Preparation, review and retention of
test records and reports
- Internal and external audits
- Personnel qualification and training
- Procurement document control and
receiving inspection
- Technical complaint response
- Technical operating procedures
Our laboratory and staff performs many
types of tests including the following:
- Soils, aggregate, and rock tests and
specialized tests
- Concrete testing including destructive
and non-destructive
- Concrete mix designs and aggregate
testing
- Masonry block and brick testing
- Asphalt and aggregate base coarse
testing
- Grout and Mortar testing
